TNNL (Tunnel) is a strategy-runner mashup where you pilot your ships through the unforgiving static of hyperspace.
TNNL is an entry for the Games Job Fair Spring '24 LITE Unity Engine Programming Challenge
Controls
- You have one action: BOOST!
- Hit any key (or click or tap) for a short boost.
- Hold for a longer boost.
Note: your left-right motion and baseline forward motion are automatic.
Goals
- Guide your ships to the safe zone at the bottom.
- Collect shield boosts (blue orbs).
- Avoid mines (red spikes).
Legend
- ⬛️ hyperspace: +1 point, -.0025% health
- 🔵 shield boost: +1000 points, +20% health
- ❌ mine: -500 points, -30% health
- 🏁 finish line: +10,000 points
- 🟡 invincibility: 5 seconds

- Utilize paths created in previous runs to minimize tunnel damage.
- Level 7 is currently the last level.

Design Overview
TNNL is designed to be highly accessible with one-touch controls and a unique persistent level alteration mechanic to create an instantly playable, high-intensity experience with excellent share-ability and replay value.
Our design pillars are:

- Every attempt should make a difference, regardless of performance
The primary mechanic involves the interaction between your shield and the environment.
The shield carves a "tunnel" along the path you travel. Carving out hyperspace does a small amount of damage to shield. As your shield takes damage it decreases in size, slowly shrinking the width of the tunnel created. Shield boosts help counteract this effect. Each adds 20% to your shield health, increasing the shield size and widening the tunnel. Tunnels persist between runs, creating safe spaces for those who come after.
The dynamic of points earned for amount of tunnel carved plus mines, over-shields, worm holes, and other additions increase complexity and add more layers of strategy.
